The Coral Controversy!The ‘miracle cure’ Coral Calcium promoter, Bob Barefoot, has recently come under heavy fire. The FTC (Federal Trade Commission) has charged Robert Barefoot, Shop America and others with making false and unsubstantiated claims about their products health benefits. The complaint has been filed in federal district court stating they violated the FTC Act by falsely claiming Coral Calcium Supreme can treat or cure cancer and other diseases, such as multiple sclerosis and heart disease. This product has been marketed primarily through infomercials and the charges come as a result of a crack down on outlandish claims that have been used to market coral calcium. The FTC charges their claims go far beyond existing scientific evidence regarding the recognized health benefits of calcium. Because of these recognized health benefits of calcium, the question being: Is calcium from coral any different from calcium from other sources? It’s confusing because ‘Coral Calcium’ is a misnomer. Coral is made of much more than just calcium. There are 74 other minerals and elements found in coral, therefore any product labeled ‘Coral Calcium’, contains 74 other minerals and elements.
