Joint Health – No Side Effects
If you are one of the millions of arthritis sufferers who have
visited their doctor in search of relief, you most likely have been
prescribed an NSAID (Vioxx, Celebrex, ibuprofen, etc.) These drugs
have been synthetically manufactured to help alleviate the symptoms
of arthritis, but not without consequences.
Some of you are probably familiar with, and may have experienced
some of the side effects of these drugs. These can include simple
stomach upset to ulcers, kidney failure or even death. Estimates
show that approximately 16,000 deaths occur in the U.S. each year as
a direct result of NSAIDs that have caused bleeding ulcers. More
recently, research from Brigham & Women’s Hospital (a Harvard
University affiliate), suggested that Vioxx might increase the risk
of heart attack.
There are safe alternatives: Nutrients, such as glucosamine sulfate,
chondroitin sulfate, salmon oil, MSM, ester- C, green tea and
anti-oxidants that are effective for promoting joint health. Side
effects are rare, and as a matter-of-fact, studies have not shown
any serious side effects. These alternatives not only control
inflammation like NSAIDs, but some, like glucosamine sulfate,
chondroitin sulfate and green tea have shown to slow the progression
of osteoarthritis and may even repair the cartilage. Specifically
glucosamine and chondroitin sulfates have shown to work by
inhibiting enzymes that break down the joints surface.
