Vitamins Are Fundamental
This
debate is almost as old as time itself. I myself have been at odds
with a doctor friend of mine for more than 10 years. He believed
that taking vitamins made for nothing more than expensive urine, and
I held fast to the belief that vitamins are a necessary
supplementation to food!
Interestingly, I received a phone call from him just the other day.
He asked if I had seen the Harvard report that just may put an end
to our differing views. I admitted that I had. Sheepishly, almost
inaudibly he confessed that perhaps he had been wrong. That just
maybe vitamins did play an important role in good nutrition and in
turn better health. Hallelujah! I am not sure which is sweeter,
Harvard professing the virtues of vitamins to the world at large or
my doctor friend quietly confessing to me! Well, one thing is for
sure: It doesn’t get any clearer than this!
Eating right keeps you healthy and gives you the complex vitamins
necessary to fight off cellular changes that lead to cancer, heart
disease and osteoporosis, according to Robert H. Fletcher, M.D.,
M.Sc, and Kathleen M. Fairfield, M.D., Dr.PH, both with Harvard
Medical School. They continue saying, problem being, virtually
everyone in the general population is at risk, because we simply
just don’t eat right. “We recommend that all adults take one
multivitamin daily.”
After reviewing almost 40 years of research, the Harvard doctors
found associations between diseases and vitamins. It’s an old but
true analogy: Like that car that sits in your driveway, your body
needs regular maintenance- VITAMINS- to keep the motor running, to
help you get more miles until you’re hauled off to the junkyard.
We stand now even more encouraged in knowing that One Life USA and
the Brabec Foundation are joined by doctors at Harvard in promoting
good health through vitamins.
