Dieting?

Then You Should Be Taking Calcium!

Dieting? What you probably know is that you’re not alone. Polls show that over 70% of Americans dieted during 2006 and the same if not more will do so again this year. What you may not know is that for your heart health and the success of your diet - you should be taking a calcium + vitamin D supplement.

As reported by Reuters Health January 23, 2007, Americans who diet are also likely to be missing the mark on getting enough calcium. Why? The first foods to go when we diet are those most high in calcium: Cheeses, milk, frozen yogurt and ice cream.

Not getting enough calcium is bad for numerous reasons. The obvious is bone health, what science has now shown it is also bad for heart health as well! Dr. Angelo Tremblay, in an interview with Reuters Health told us that dieting participants in studies who supplemented with calcium and vitamin D showed greater drops in LDL (‘bad’) cholesterol and increases in their HDL (‘good ‘) cholesterol as compared to those dieting who did not take the calcium + D supplements.

Dr. Tremblay noted that low calcium intake appears to be fairly low not only among those dieting, but among those who are overweight. “At least half of our overweight patients do not get enough calcium. This is not a trivial fraction.”

Dr. Tremblay further commented on the fact that anyone dieting to lose weight should be sure to get adequate amounts of every other vitamin and mineral, as well as calcium and vitamin D. Why? Because there is evidence that that general vitamin and mineral supplementation may have additional benefits when it comes to overall health and the success of dieting. (perhaps you should look at OneLife’s Daily Multiple).

As to the specifics and how calcium benefits your diet….There are a number of mechanisms by which calcium may add to the effects of weight loss on blood fats. Dr. Tremblay noted several studies that have shown that for one, calcium appears to interfere with fat absorption in the gut. Additionally, this mineral also helps the body mobilize and burn fat, and may also aid in appetite control!

Use this current health news to help make your dieting efforts of 2007 be successful on two levels: Weight loss and keeping your heart healthier. Take OneLifeUSA’s Calcium Plus or Coral Calcium supplements. Both have vitamin D.
